That sounds cool to me. Toby's face is one of the first images that comes to my mind when I think of Skatopia, so it is only fitting that we have a reunion up in his neck of the woods. Plus, I've been meening to go up there and now, well I just have to. Plus from what I understand, there is a cool park and the whole vibe is good right?

The bowl is awesome...but you better get a pre-session in before the day because the amount of lines will boggle.

The only problem with Solvang is it's not too crowd friendly. Alot of terain packed into a small area. There's an upper and lower section with lines going everywhere from top to bottom. When there's alot of skaters there the collisin factor goes way up. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite parks no doubt, but if your talking the kind of turn out you've had in the past there's no way that bitchen' little park could handle that many skaters.

Who needs big. We need skatopia and friends. A lot of those people were only showing up because of the location.

My $0.02. I'm all for d-vang as well for the same reasons as most. I have tons of fun with the Skatopia crew and it is about time to tone it down a bit. Plenty of the other sk8 websites have the bigger events and we did our bit as well for the big 30.

I'm getting tired of the bigger events if I'm there to skate and then get snaked all day long (from 12yr olds being pushed by their daddys).

Ken, you have a decent invite list that is put together and plenty of work into this nice site. Just post it up on this site and then to any of the peeps on your invite list. We could PM or email any other folks that you might want to have attend and keep it on the invite only and special guests. Kinda figure out the number in advance for what would be a cool head count for the park (Colin/Toby = chime in on local vang knowledge). The Jungleland crew skates up there all the time and they always rave about the good scene!

Is there any camping close by up there other then the hotel option?  I wouldn't mind driving up a day early and hit another park on the way an/or a get aquainted sesh with the Vang crete and then reunion and bbq the next day...

 Did a cool 50/50 in my wife's Mercedes yesterday on the cable divider in the center median of highway 26 on my way back from North Carolina. Only took out about 75 feet worth of metal posts. Will have to try for more the next time a tractor trailer runs me off the road. Except for a really nice black and blue mark and some abrasions on my left side from where the side air bag hit me, I was VERY lucky to not get hurt. Those damn air bags hurt like a son of a bitch!!! The guy at the repair shop told me his guys occasionally take them out of totalled cars, and shoot them off in the back, and have had "items" fly as high as 75 feet up in the air after deploying them. I was afraid to ask just what these items may be... Cats maybe??? lol

 So you guys figure out when and where the next reunion is so I can book my flights. I am "assuming" it will most likely be the week before the Vans contest...

Any non rainy day would be good in my book.

10th is better for me...one of my girls turns 11 on May 3rd.

 It isn't that I don't want to skate and BS with you guys, but since my trips to So Cal are like GOLD these days (or is that DAZE?), I have to make the most of them. If the reunion is on the 10th, then I can hang with the locals and still be able to see my other skate buddies at the Bash. Besides, most of the guys I skated with at Topia were "AT" the bash, right Kelly??? lol Besides, I may be a spectator this year, as I have to see the Doctor tomorrow to get released to skate again after totalling my wife's car 3 weeks ago. She seems to think I have internal injuries. Heck, I was born with those... lol 

 You guys don't realize what it is like living in a friggin desolate area with only one place to skate within 100 mile radius. Although Hank's ramps are cool, they still don't compare to skating all the cool parks in So Cal with all my friends (both topia and from other parks of the era). Even though it was hotter then hell plus 3, I had a great time with Dale in PS. Okay, checking out the female lifeguards in the pool over the wall during heat stroke breaks did add to the experience... '-) Yeah, it "IS" great to skate with my "Old Bro's", and the memories from then and now are what keeps me going.

 But whatever day you guys decide on, I will try and make it out. Just decide soon so I can start making flight arrangements.

I will most likely be flying in the night/morning of the 9th/10th, and will be staying right off the 101 in Thousand Oaks, and wanted to know if someone could pick me up and drop me off on their way. Lompoc has about 10 hotels from $ to $$$. It is 25 miles away from Solvang though. Straight shot out 246.

Lompoc is also only a few miles from the road (14 miles long) to Jalama (Camping).

A day trip wouldn't be too difficult, I hope, I've done it down there a few times...

Solvang is kind of a tourist trap.

The Los Osos park is pretty awesome and there are areas to BBQ Etc... But that is another hour or so north and close to the beach /good waves.

Morro bay,Pismo, San Luis all have hotels and campgrounds.

Another 45 minutes north you're where I live and it is Primo wine country. Like Napa 30 years ago. Gorgeous country!

Something to think about.

Mothers day will probably cause some occupancy issues with the hotels though.

 I wanted to skate in it this year, but unfortunately between banging my knee up at the Halloween Bash, Kayleigh being born, just about totaling my wifes car, and not being able to get on the "invite" list to skate, things just didnt' quite work out the way I had planned. Last wednesday was my first time back on my board since October, and it was a VERY sad sight indeed... lol

 So all I can do now is pray for a Golden Ticket to the PPP, and practice for next years event. Hopefully I can get an invite to at least skate in the "media" event, if I can get Michael to start publishing some "East Coast" articles, and I can figure out how to get on that damn invite list!!! lol

 Right now I am just happy to skate a little and learn how to use my new camera. I am still trying to buy a wide alge or fisheye, but nothing good has come up on Caraigs List or Ebay yet.

 Right now I just want to get back to So Cal and skate with the "Old Bro's"!!! Nothing else really matters.

What happened to your truck in California?

 The green beast is still in So Cal. The only major problem is we don't arrive into LAX until around 11pm Friday night. By the time we get luggage, drive thru for something to eat, get to Thousand Oaks and settled in for the night, it is usually around 1-2am (4-5am for my body clock). I will also have Kayleigh in my lap for both flights, and I am sure Johnathan will be terrorizing the cabin the entire flight... lol

 I am guessing from Thousand Oaks, it is probably a good 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive up to Solvang. I figured if I could hitch a ride up and back, it would save me a little wear and tear on my body, as the past 5months have NOT been good to it. I would hate to ruin my trip by falling asleep at the wheel going up or coming back, but if I can't hitch a ride, I will "Nike" it!!! I figured since just about everyone had to come up the 101, a quick stop off and on the freeway wouldn't be a big deal. Heck, I would even sit on the freeway if I wasn't afraid of getting arrested for looking like a homeless person...

 As a side note, what are we doing for food/beverages this year? I can send someone a check to pitch in for food. Just let me know what you guys want to do.

I always cruise up PCH thru Malibu and Oxnard from my place on the west side. Way better for me, I avoid the 405 and the 101 like the plague. My friend Layback Mike out of Santa Barbara has had great luck with his cardboard sign as of late though.

I think I'm dragging Pat along, I've been prepping her for a while now. I'll have to fund a shopping trip but that's cool.

And I think I'm bringing Mariya and a friend so I'll have a full car too Brian.

Toby, I'm pretty bummed to hear you won't be able to make the reunion.  I was all for doing the reunion up in Solvang since the main group has been trying to get a session up that way for two years and running.  I enjoy skating with you (and visiting) and figured it was a fair to balance the travel out from south to north.

I would like to offer up we move the reunion location to a different park and save Solvang for another day when Toby can be around to visit with the group.  The price of gas and lodging makes doing extra trips to the same location kinda pricy now a days (still would like to hit solvang AND visit with Toby).  It is pretty obvious that we need to keep the same day or at least the same weekend scheduled for the event but maybe we could move it south a few miles.

I suggest we move the event back down to either Pedlow or Glendale.  I really think Pala would be a super choice as well.

Well I'm putting this one out there, so shout me down or lets make a new plan!

 I skated Pedlow once, and it was pretty fun. Also an easier drive for me since I am not arriving until early in the morning the 10th from SC, but I will go where ever you guys decide. I think the 10th is still the best, since Mom's Day is the 11th.

 It has rained here every friggin day for the past 10 days and is getting VERY old!!! At this rate, I won't get back on my board again until I am back in So Cal. I can skimboard and "almost" wakeboard in my backyard now!!! lol

Once again, I was one of the main guys to suggest going to Solvang in the first place but one of my main reasons was to visit and skate with Toby.  None of us have hotel reservations for up in the area since it is now a one day session.

Pedlow could be a fun day.  Little flow area is decent and the snakerun is ok.  Pool is on the mellow side which would be fun for our crew!

And some good news for a change.  I found out today that I'm going to survive the huge layoff at work.  I may be working in a little bit different location (TBD) but I'm not looking for a job!  Texas my ass!

 The reality is that this Skatopia thing is really more than just us old Skatopians. It seems to be about the community at Skatopia .net which is totally relevent!

All the BBQ areas are already reserved. I guess A and B are for 80 people and D is for 120 people. Are there any first come first serve BBQ rings at this park? Or maybe we should look into Pizza or something?

All the small pits are first come. We always just grab one in the morning upon arrival.
