Jim Brewer and I

Apollo Hada
I ran into Jim Brewer tonight (my manager back when I worked at Skatopia skatepark). The last time I saw Jim was on the day Skatopia closed (early 1980). As Jim was telling me some of the things he remembered about Skatopia I could feel a lot of old and wonderful memories come back to my mind. It was great to see you Jim aka "Brewer"! And thanks for taking the picture Apollo!

Tony Hawk
The last time I saw Tony Hawk Skate was back in 1979 or so at Skatopia Skatepark in Southern California. A skateboard contest was scheduled at Skatopia. Tony and his father Frank Hawk came to the park (on at least one night that I can remember) to practice. The entire Skatopia staff was buzzing about Tony Hawk's arrival. At the time I didn't know who he was. The way that Frank approached his son's skateboard session was my first glimpse into the difference between skating for fun and skating for getting ahead of others. Until then I never knew that skateboarding could be work.
